Oil painting on canvas, Frostbite by Sir Stanley Spencer, CBE, RA (Cookham 1891? Cliveden 1959), 1927. The interior hospital scenes are continued in the lower register of the south wall. This one shows a hospital ward back at Beaufort, where orderlies turn mattresses and change beds whilst a patient with frostbite is attended to by a doctor and assistant. Scraping the patients’ feet was one of Spencer’s tasks.
